National legislation
- Food Standards Act, 1974 (No. 11 of 1974)
This is an enabling Act which allows several Ministers to make regulations governing food standards.
The provisions of the Food Standards Act, 1974 have not been invoked by the Minister of Health and Children. However, Food Standards Regulations have been made by the Minister for Agriculture and Food as follows:
- Food Standards (Potatoes) Regulations 1977 (S.I. No. 367 of 1977)
- Food Standards (Potatoes) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 (S.I. No. 4 of 1996)
- Food Standards (Potatoes) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 (S.I. No. 406 of 2003)
Compositional standards for certain foods are set down at European level. For further information on these, please refer to the section on 'Food Products: Animal Origin' or 'Food Products: Non-animal origin'.
