For regulatory purposes there are three classes of bottled water: natural mineral water, spring water and ‘other water’.
The 2024 update of Guidance Note 25 takes into account the recast Drinking Water Directive (EU) 2020/2184. This document provides guidance for the assessment of compliance of legislation applicable to natural mineral waters, spring waters and other waters. Although this Guidance Note is primarily aimed at enforcement officers, the guidance provides useful information that can also be referred to by food businesses.
