Article 139 of Regulation (EU) No 2017/625 (OCR) on official controls and other official activities, requires Member States to put penalties in place for infringements of the OCR.
These penalties must be effective, proportionate and dissuasive.
In Ireland penalties have been put in place in national legislation.
