This enforcement policy explains how food legislation is enforced in Ireland and describes the consequences of non-compliance.
The FSAI has the statutory responsibility for enforcing food legislation. Enforcement is carried out mainly through service contracts with official agencies who act on behalf of the FSAI.
All non-compliance requires remedial action, even if there is no immediate health risk. It is the legal responsibility of food business operators to ensure that the food they place on the market is safe and that all requirements of food law are met.
