This factsheet is a guide to food labelling for those trading at Country Markets Ltd.
Food labelling provides consumers with key information on the nature and characteristics of the food and helps them in making an informed choice when purchasing food. The most important rule is that the labelling, presentation and advertising of food (including its shape, appearance or packaging) must not mislead the consumer. This includes the way food is displayed and any information supplied with it, e.g. menu boards, leaflets and information displayed at the market. It must be accurate, clear and easy to understand. Food products sold in Ireland, including imported foods, must have the food information in English (with optional food information in Irish in addition to English).
