Corporate governance is vitally important for the FSAI in effectively completing its statutory obligations.
It ensures that a framework of structures, policies and processes are in place to deliver on these obligations and it also allows members to objectively and effectively assess management and corporate performance. At its most basic level, corporate governance is about how the FSAI does its work and how it holds itself answerable to its stakeholders.
The FSAI has developed the Corporate Governance Framework in line with Government policy and the revised Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies (2016). As a regulator and a consumer protection agency, we must constantly strive to operate to the highest governance standards. The FSAI recognises that standards need to be responsive to the changing environment and will continue to develop and update the framework over time as both the public and State sector governance frameworks evolve.
