Zoonoses in Ireland, Update for 2009

Wednesday, 16 November 2011

This zoonoses update presents available zoonotic data for Ireland for 2009.

Zoonoses are diseases and infections naturally transmissible from vertebrate animals to man by direct contact with infected animals, insects or via animal excreta in the environment. While it is possible for anybody to become infected with a zoonotic agent, certain population groups such as the very young, the elderly and immunocompromised are particularly vulnerable to infection and at greater risk of more serious consequences.
